Did you know, Nissan was originally founded by the Kwaishinsha Motor Car Works in 1911 by Masujiro Hashimoto? Their first car was produced in 1914 called the Dat. The Dat was actually an acronym named after 3 people that developed the car whom were Kenjiro ‘D’en, Rokuro ‘A’oyama, and Meitaro ‘T’akeuchi. In 1925, the company was renamed to Dat Motorcar Co. The Dat Motorcar Co was well known for building cars and trucks. In 1931, Dat built a smaller car and called it the Datson. The Datson, meaning son of Dat “smaller”, marked the beginning of building a smaller car than the usual full size car previously being built. The Datson Type 10 was their first production car followed by the Datson Type 11. In 1934, the Nissan Motor Company was Dat Motorcar Co’s auto parts division that was separated to build parts independently. After 1947, Datson started producing the 110 Saloon and the 120 Pickup. In 1958, Datson started exporting their cars to the USA using the name Nissan Motor Corporation USA.

By the late 1960’s, Datson became very popular in America with the introduction of the Datson 240z. This model was far more popular than the previous Fairlady and it became the worlds #1 selling sports car at the time. In the 1970’s, the Datson improved the 240z and created the 260z, and then the 280z. By this time, Datson had improved the engine to use fuel injection. Other Datson cars around this time included the 210, 310, 510, 810 and still the tough Datson pickup truck. In 1981, Datson made the decision to use the Nissan name worldwide. In the 1980’s, Nissan cars included the Pulsar NX, Sentra, Stanza, 200SX, 280ZX, 300ZX, Maxima, Van and of coarse the famous Nissan Pickup. The 1990’s added the 350Z, Frontier, NX, Pathfinder, Sentra and Altima. In this time period, Nissan even partnered with Ford creating the Nissan Quest/ Mercury Villager. In the 2000’s, Nissan added the 370Z, Armada, Cube, Murano, Rogue, Titan, Versa, X-Trail, and Xterra. In 2011, Nissan created their first all electric car the Nissan Leaf.
